Friday Romford greyhound tips

There are ifs and buts aplenty, but New Destiny (9.28) if difficult to get away from in the Coral Coronation Cup Final, tonight's feature event at Romford Stadium, live on Sky Sports Racing and attheraces.com.

Mark Wallis's classy sort was ante-post favourite for the £10,000 Category One competition but heads into the 575m final having been displaced as fastest in the event after Cooladerry Dust's runaway semi-final victory seven days ago, with the latter now lining up as one of two Nathan Hunt-trained runners.

A first-bend lead for local runner Cooladerry Dust would certainly put Newinn Destiny under real pressure, as might an early advantage for Miami Bullet after Paul Young's dog also impressed in the semi-finals. Another local hope, he is vindicating the promise shown when reaching the Maiden Derby final at Towcester.

Untold Paanga, the other Nathan Hunt runner, also packs a punch early and he, too, will eye a pillar-to-post victory. Tromora Rex (John Mullins) is bred to stay and finishes fast, while Joes Sagar (Belinda Green) has the draw should his rivals crowd up inside.

Either way the start looks absolutely crucial, but New Destiny has shown the ability to win from off the front - as in the heats - and from the off the pace in the semi-finals. The safe haven of the rails gives her two chances therefore potentially and Wallis could be set for his fifth Coronation Cup success.

Romford also stages the final of the Romford Friday Night 500 Standard over 400m and last week's heats suggests a hugely competitive affair. Value preference is for well-drawn Stonepark Champ (9.11) for a very much in-form Maxine Locke kennel, albeit a fast start is essential given lots of speed into the turn. Trap six might work the oracle for him.

Earlier, Baywatch Bullet (8.54) looks good for Hove trainer Belinda Green. A draw outside Essex Vase trainer Roxys Bullet rates a positive, although keeping tabs with impressive Coronation Cup heat winner Ballymac Diana might be key should the latter trap well. However, the all-round speed of the Kent St Leger third is preferred.

Zoomey Saoirse (7.27) can star in the first of the night's open races. Nathan Hunt's bitch has a good record at Romford and showed herself to be in good heart with a smart show in a Monmore sprint last week. The draw inside looks an added bonus and a first-bend lead looks a distinct possibility after which she can make her rivals see red!
